For my recent birthday, I recieved many lovely gifts from my family and my friends and admirers, and I cherish all of them. There was much love and thought sent my way. Two of those gifts were DVD collections of favourite cartoons I used to watch in the wee small hours as a kid, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors and The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers. They are amazing, I loved them and you should have heard me squeal when I opened the packages:) Sailor Moon was one that I liked too, I hear that was amazing in the original Japanese, much more complex. I was always drawn to the unusual cartoons, the ones that looked different somehow, from the other stuff on Saturday mornings.
Japanese Animation. So many of the men in anime are gorgeous androgynous creatures, big eyes and long haired and soft spoken, graceful and incredibly lovely. And then there was Robotech-Next Generation and a character named Lancer. Tall, fair, with flowing waistlength lavender hair, trained in classic Kabuki theatre before becoming a fighter pilot. He crashes and to hide from the enemy, he takes on the persona of a woman named Yellow Dancer. And he just doesn’t dress like a woman, he acts, moves, flirts and even becomes a famous singer – as a female. When he’s Yellow Dancer, he IS female. I was totally fascinated. And I think it really opened up some channels for me, because I was always drawn to characters like that growing up. I loved androgynous men, (hence my obsession with eighties music!) And, I love my sissies. The idea of a man who wants to touch his feminine side so much, who admires women so completely that he is willing to do anything to be like us? I love it.
