Recently I’ve been thinking about whores. The sex industry has always fascinated me, documentaries on strippers and exotic dancers- books about escorts and phone sex workers. The “common” street walker and the high class courtesan. So many people lump us all together, any woman who provides a sexual service for a man for money is a whore. And, much of society looks down on us because of it.
Today, I took a drive through the UT campus in Knoxville, a friend who had gone there was pointing out the frat houses and old buildings. I was surprised to learn that there were no residential sorority houses on campus. The female Greeks have a Panhellenic building, with meetings rooms and offices for each sorority. When I asked him why, in this day and age of active and vocal equality, this was so, he shrugged and said, “No one wants a whorehouse on campus and they’ve always been afraid that’s what could sneak into a sorority house.” I was stunned, and a little pissed off. I’m sure those frat houses didn’t get so trashed while their inhabitants were saying their prayers and making honor roll. Frat houses, indeed, are infamous for being hotbeds of indiscriminate and, sometime, illegal sexual activity. But, I guess that’s okay, as long as no money is changing hands. Those girls can fuck for a free beer, but god forbid they earn a little tuition money.
It’s true, especially for the ladies who provide direct sexual contact, that the money can be seductive in and of itself. Girls who planned to dance or escort their way through college can get “sucked into” the lifestyle large amounts of money can buy. In Nevada too, at the legal brothels, you find ladies who came to work and pay bills who spend and live large… only to have to keep working to pay new bills. Not smart economically, perhaps, but should they be scorned for how they earn the money?
I know that I provide something valuable to my callers. I am proud to be part of Voxerotic and its sister sites. My calls are interesting, funny, wild and full of deep feeling, they reflect the thoughts and fantasies and feelings of men AND women. After all, how can I, and my fellow phone ladies, not respond as women to the needs of our callers? If we weren’t here, where would these men go, these men who feel that they need to hide part of themselves for whatever reason they hide? And, if we do provide help and relief and companionship, why should anyone look down on us for being paid to provide it? Why should anyone who gives of themselves, be it a massuse, a therapist, an athelete, a phone sex domme, or any professional, be considered “just a whore” for earning a living doing something they love?
